you know, i don't think there's any period after the S in Harry Truman's name. his parents just chose the letter S as his last name to please both his grandfathers. i've always remembered that cause i thought it was so bizarre
And don't forget the trumpeter swan! The father swan in that story was also an example of sacrifice.
I used to love the e.b. white books growing up. Garth Williams' illustrations enthralled me. He also did the Little House books. And the Cricket in Times Square.
YES! Mr. Howard, I'm so glad that I am missed. I wish I had more time in the recent month, but it's been insane around here. Now we are on break, so things should be much more smooth, and you can count on lots of comments from me...you will probably be sick of me in not too long. :)
P.S. I've always loved that fact about good ole' Harry. Our friend's father was name M A Butler. Neither letter stood for anything, and they called him M A. He named his children letter name combinations like Robert K Butler - the k of course didn't stand for anything.
I like words, images, graphic design, well-turned phrases, doodling, humor and profundity. These are found in every quarter and I'm always on the hunt. I was rescued (in November, 1974) from guilt and a stubborn irrational belief in an impersonal chance universe (with the accompanying hopelessness). I'm now convinced that nothing is more obvious or worthy of our attention than our Creator and the one true ancient path. Only Jesus has the words of everlasting life. Like John Newton "I once was lost but now am found, was blind but now I see."
