Haven't checked here in awhile until recently...I've been missing a treat! We listen to that poem everyday in the car...my three year old relates a lot of real life happenings with A.A. Milne's words, such as "I jumped six inches in the air with surprise and anxiety." A clever man, much more so than the Disney version would lead one to believe.
beth, wow...what a treat to hear from you. thanks for commenting. it's so motivating to know i'm not just amusing myself. what disney has done with pooh is almost sacrilege. but it helps to have little ones tempering our judgments and attitudes... kind regards.
Mark and I have become so enamored with the original Pooh stories (and illustrations) that we just can't allow Disney Pooh in our house. We do listen to the audio readings of the unabridged works, read brilliantly by Charles Kuralt. Sadly, they are only available on tape except a short CD with selections and poems that we got used on Amazon. We also have some old battered tapes we still pull out. I petitioned the publisher, Penguin Audio, to republish the Kuralt readings (for which he received a Grammy) in CD/MP3 format.
So, you can see how devoted we are to Pooh. All that said, I'm sure our three year old would love Disney Pooh if given the chance. :)
we have disney's (original) pooh stories on dvd. i had it on vinyl as a kid;) elijah adores it. his favorite part is when pooh is doing his stoutness exercises. he copies pooh's every move.
I like words, images, graphic design, well-turned phrases, doodling, humor and profundity. These are found in every quarter and I'm always on the hunt. I was rescued (in November, 1974) from guilt and a stubborn irrational belief in an impersonal chance universe (with the accompanying hopelessness). I'm now convinced that nothing is more obvious or worthy of our attention than our Creator and the one true ancient path. Only Jesus has the words of everlasting life. Like John Newton "I once was lost but now am found, was blind but now I see."
